The 2012 Joint Rail Conference (JRC) is the principal, multi-disciplinary, rail and transit research conference in North America.   This year, the organizers selected Technology to Advance the Future of Rail Transport as the conference theme and issued a worldwide call for papers and presentations that resulted in an overwhelming response. Hundreds of abstracts were received from six different continents and over 20 different countries on a wide variety of rail and systems engineering, transportation, management, planning, safety and operations topics. The conference program will include 2 ½ days of concurrent spoken presentation sessions in over twenty-five different topic areas, a special poster presentation session, invited speakers and plenary sessions. Session topics will cover all aspects of railroad civil, mechanical, electrical and systems engineering topics, as well as rail safety, planning, design, financing, operations and management.
