Academic Standing
Dean’s List
Dean’s List eligibility is determined by the semester grade point average (GPA) corresponding to cut-off points that will yield the top 16% of GPAs based on the five previous fall and spring semesters for each school or college. To be placed on the Dean’s List you must be a matriculated full or part-time student. Full time students must have completed 15 semester hours with no grades of “I”" or less than “C”. Part-time students must have completed at least 12 credit hours during the Fall and Spring semesters.
Warning
Academic warning is given when the semester GPA falls below 2.0. Students who have a cumulative GPA below 2.0 and fewer than 30 cumulative credits will also be placed on warning.
WARNING IN THE MAJOR
Academic warning in the Major is given when the major GPA is less than 2.0.
Probation
A student is placed on academic probation when his/her cumulative GPA is less than 2.0. A notice is placed in the student’s academic records. A reduction in academic load for the next semester is recommended. If upon completion of this semester, the student’s GPA is 2.0 or higher the student is removed from academic probation. A notice to this effect is placed in the student’s academic record.
Dismissal
Dismissal is indicated when a student has been on probation for two consecutive semesters and s/he has accumulated more Deficiency Points than are allowed for his/her cumulative credit total. A dismissed student may petition the Dean for Conditional Status. If granted, the student may register for 40 credits over 2 years (13 max. credits fall and spring, 7 max. credits each summer session). If the student cannot raise his/her GPA to at least 2.0 while on Conditional Status, a 5 year suspension is given.
