The Temple College of Engineering Co-op program is a great opportunity for you to obtain valuable hands-on engineering experience. Co-op assignments can expose you to a variety of engineering fields and professionals.
You will:
A student must have a minimum overall GPA of 2.5 and have completed at least 30 credit hours. Transfer students must also have completed at least 1 semester at Temple University. You must also fill out a Co-op application and make an appointment with the Co-op office.
The Co-op program at the College of Engineering is an optional program. It is up to the student to decide whether they want to participate in the Co-op program. A student can choose 1 or 2 semesters of co-op (must be a fall or a spring semester) length depending on their interest. The program’s flexibility gives students the freedom to tailor fit their Co-op experience into their academic schedule and plan. All sophomore and junior level students are able to participate in the program as long as the minimum requirements are met. A Co-op experience in the senior year is difficult and not recommended due to the time needed for completion of senior project.

We can not guarantee a Co-op position for everyone. Placement will depend upon employers’ needs as well as the motivation and job readiness on the student’s part.
When you participate in the Co-op program, you will be required to take a 3 credit Co-op class. You will receive a grade and be expected to write a project paper along with other requirements listed in the Co-op syllabus Most departments will allow for you to use one Co-op (3cr) class towards the technical elective component in your degree.
If you receive any type of financial aid (grants and/or loans), you MUST speak with the financial aid office before participating in the Co-op program to discuss how it might impact your current and/or future financial aid.
While on a Co-op assignment:

Students who live in on-campus housing may continue to do so during their Co-op assignment. If not, students must notify the housing office to discuss their options. On rare occasions, your Co-op assignment may be out of state. We will help you as much as we can, but it is up to the student to find the appropriate housing.
Many Co-op positions are located in the city of Philadelphia and therefore readily accessible by public transportation. However, there are many companies who are located outside Philadelphia as well. Thus, having reliable transportation available will greatly increase your chance of being offered a position.
