Robert M. and Mary Haythornthwaite Foundation Distinguished Lecture Series- Medical Device Innovation- Michael R. Tracey, Ph.D.
In this talk we will discuss innovation as it applies to medical device development. The role of the engineer and the scientist is evolving in the development of health care technologies. We will focus on 3 key themes: that the needs of the patient must be central; that advances in technology require development engineers to take a multidisciplinary approach; and that the “who” and the “what” of innovation is evolving. Recognition of changes in the external environment, the shift in customer base and the importance of demonstrating the value of the innovation for stakeholders will also be discussed.
